Life is beautiful but occasionally it kicks you in the teeth

Hi, I'm so happy you are here.

Welcome to my world. I am Olivia Sambo. I  live in a world of business, homeschooling, creativity and writing. On these pages I will share my experiences, my opinions, my hopes, dreams and aspirations. I am a closet writer and recently discovered that I am closet nudist as well.
I created this blog to share some of my most painful experiences and how I got through them. I'm still battling with some but life is always a work in progress. I also wanted to remind you that you are never alone in whatever you are facing, and you will pull through.
The one thing that keeps me going is writing. I write because I am and I am because I write. Something deep inside of me comes alive when I write. It gives me a sense of purpose and well being.

I  have a passion for beautiful things, especially houses. My pet hate is estate agents who sell million rand houses and advertise these houses using ugly blurry, nondescript pictures.

My interests are wide and varied. I have been an estate, selling a house within a month. That was one of the highlights of my life and it was exhilarating because I love property and the real estate industry. Interior design is another beautiful industry that fascinates me. There is also something magical about re-designing a house to fit a person's needs and lifestyle. But being an electrical fitter with experience in wiring houses and doing electrical work has created an aversion to working in the industry of beatifying houses.

Photography is another love of mine. It gives you the power to capture beautiful intimate moments between people. I find the pictures that are spontaneous and not posed are the ones that hold a more special place in people's hearts. It takes skill and patience and a lot of luck to get those shots. Photos hold such powerful memories of who we were and where we come from while at the same time reminding us of our most beautiful moments.

I am both analytical and creative which make me one of a very few weird people who can basically thrive in any industry. My greatest challenge is that I can not adapt to a traditional nine to five job. I have to be in a career where I search for information, share information, interact with people on a daily basis, and teach people what I know. My personality was analysed on more than one occasion and it was found that it's important to me that people around me must feel good and it bothers me when someone is unhappy around me. It has always been true for me but I never thought to actually put it into words.

I have worked in radio where I presented and produced inserts for a national Current Affairs show. That just killed my spirit. One of the first stories I did was where a twelve year old boy was accused of killing two of his school friends. The attack was so brutal that the boys could only be recognised by the shoes they were wearing. After two years I just couldn't stand bringing bad news to people any more, also I started worrying more about the deadline than the actual story. There that was the sign that it was time to go.
I've also produced and presented an educational show on personal finances for the same radio station. I loved it but the limiting part was that I had to stick to a certain format.

I am always trying new things. Life is always evolving  and interesting, never stagnant and there are so many things to learn and to experience. I utterly enjoy learning about new things, and to see what makes people tick.

I finally have the guts to pursue my lifelong dreams of becoming a writer and public speaker. I always had the dreams but I lacked the courage. I wanted to have stability before I actually started doing what I love. That didn't work out too well. This is the first time I actually put my hand up and let it be known. And it feels incredible.

Now I have a pocket full of dreams, a huge dose of determination, a massive hunger and desire to succeed, and the absolute refusal to give up until I reach my goals.

I am determined to be the best writer I can ever be, to be the greatest public speaker I can ever be and to travel the world with my family.

In the meantime I have  family to love, and to show my children anything is possible.  I want to leave a legacy for them by building something I can be proud of. I want my husband to look at me with awe for being more than I could ever be and to surprise and impress him with my capabilities and achievements. Yep, my family is my source of inspiration.

I am studying towards a qualification in Financial Accounting, something I know absolutely nothing off. And I am enjoying every minute of it. The attention to detail and the knowledge that even one digit in the wrong place can cause the numbers not to add up fascinates me greatly. I'm starting from scratch because I want to do it right. I've learned the very hard and painful way that nothing in life will last if you don't build it on a proper foundation. And there are no short cuts no success.

This is the beginning of my journey. You're welcome to come along to share in this powerful quest of self discovery, challenges, triumphs, dreams and introspection. I'd love for you to be part of it and share your story along the way. That is how we'll inspire and build each other on this journey.

You have so much to be grateful for in your life. For a long time, I wanted to vomit when someone told me that. My first question would be grateful for what? Grateful for not having enough money? Grateful for living for pay check to pay check? Grateful for life’s disappointments? And so, I could list everything I wasn’t grateful for because life really sucks at times....

Losing my dad, my home and my income in one year brought me to this place called rock bottom. Having to uproot my children and take them away from all that was familiar to them was heartbreaking. Not being able to afford even the most basic things was a new low that I’ve never experienced before. Seeing the despair and the hopelessness of my husband was like dying a painful quiet death every day.

I lost my home, my income and my dad in one year and I thought I would not survive. Then having to start all over again from scratch with absolutely nothing was another blow. I was battling really hard to make sense of it and had to dig deep to find answers. Through the pain and the anger I learnt some very valuable lessons that helped to move forward, not in giant leaps but in tiny baby steps.
